TEHRAN – Iranian movies “Coldness” and “Sound and Fury” will compete in the 19th Shanghai International Film Festival, which will be held in the Chinese metropolis from June 11 to 19.  

A production of the Farabi Cinema Foundation, “Coldness” directed by brothers Bahram and Bahman Ark (Hajabollu) will go on screen in the Asia New Talent Awards section of the festival.  

The film starring Nasrin Moradi and Sadra Daneshvar-Heris is about an eight year old boy who is constantly anxious and wets himself due to the grave financial difficulties of his family. He is forced to hide himself under his mother’s chador every day coming back from school.

“Sound and Fury” directed by Hooman Seyyedi will compete for Golden Goblet Awards with 13 other films, including “Cock and Bull” by Cao Baoping from China and “Flowers of Evil” by Antti Jokinen from Finland. 

Starring Navid Mohammadzadeh and Mahnaz Tabatabai, “Sound and Fury” unfolds the hectic life of a married pop singer who gets into serious trouble after beginning an affair with one of his female fans.

Filmmaker Derek Tung-Shing Yee from Honk Kong is the president of the jury for the Asian New Talent Awards while Serbian director Emir Kusturica presides over the panel for the Golden Goblet Awards.
